Road-friendly off-road Japan saw the debut of Honda Elevate

Modern SUVs are the epitome of misnomer since they should be able to perform a wide range of off-road tasks. With most SUVs, though, this isn’t the case because their drivetrains aren’t as functional as those of a 4×4 vehicle. Therefore, the best way to characterize them would be as high-riding hatchbacks or crossovers.

Still, most people classify them as SUVs. Manufacturers occasionally release an off-road edition of these vehicles to serve as a reminder to consumers that they are still “SUVs.” Honda Elevate is the most recent. An image of the WR-V’s unique Field Explorer Concept has been made public by the massive Japanese automaker.

The Field Explorer Concept of Honda Elevate (WR-V)

For those who are unaware, a few weeks ago, Honda rebranded Elevate as WR-V and introduced it to the domestic market. The Field Explorer Concept is scheduled to debut in January 2024 at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, and on March 22, 2024, it will formally make its debut in Japan.

To further emphasize the toughness typical of an SUV, special customization has been applied to the WR-V based on the “Tough Style” exterior theme, which utilizes genuine Honda accessories. Among the obvious changes are the side skirts, bash plate, blacked-out air dam, revised “HONDA” branding, and an all-black front grille that is highlighted by auxiliary lights.

To further enhance the SUV appeal of the car, the side profile is enhanced with squared wheel arches and all-black cladding on the door sills. Rugged luggage rack on the roof adds even more emphasis to the SUV look. It has an upscale appearance thanks to the gloss black finish on the alloy wheels. As a result, Field Explorer Concept has only received cosmetic updates; no new functional enhancements have been made.

specs for the Honda Elevate (WR-V) powertrain

In terms of engine specs, the India-spec and Japan-spec WR-V are the same. It is equipped with the same 1.5-liter i-Vtec naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which produces a peak torque of 145 Nm and horsepower of 119. The same transmission choices are available for this motor: a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
