Another upgrade for Google Wallet is on the way, as Android Central reports. The California-based business is aiming to make it simpler for users to access cards from websites and apps by using “AppLinkData definitions.”
A recent update to Google Wallet, a mobile payment service, allows users to immediately load boarding passes and cinema tickets into their wallets. As per a recent article on the Google Developer Blog, this capability is accessible for select movie chains and airlines across the globe. Google is now working towards bringing this functionality to all movie theaters and airlines.
Sending a confirmation email to a Gmail account triggers the feature. After then, tickets or passes are automatically uploaded.
It’s unknown if the new function will be compatible with all Canadian airlines, such as Air Canada, or movie theaters, like Cineplex or Landmark.
Enhancements have also been made to Google’s WearOS wearables and the Google Wallet app for Android operating systems. Passes can be manually moved to an Archive Pass section, where users can choose to unarchive them and have them show up on the home screen.
Google revealed in its release notes that when you receive an email confirmation to your Gmail account, Google Wallet may now instantly add cinema tickets and plane permits. This implies that adding these passes or tickets by hand is no longer necessary.
In some circumstances, though, you might still need to add them manually. “integration is live for some global movie chains and airlines.” according to the release notes. Which movie theater chains and airlines are covered is not specified by Google. The digital behemoth claims that in the future, it is “working to expand this” link to more businesses and airlines.
This update follows Google’s recent addition of support for more than 40 financial institutions, including popular payment app Venmo, local banks, and credit unions.
