Air Force ranks first in the 2023–24 rankings, achieving its highest NET position ever

Due to Air Force’s recent winning streak, the Falcons achieved their highest-ever NET ranking on Monday.

The Falcons, who have won six straight games and are 7-2 overall, are ranked No. 118 in the first NET rankings for the 2023–24 campaign. Founded in 2018, the NET rankings are used to evaluate college basketball teams’ resumes.

The rankings divide the 362 NCAA Division I teams into four quadrants in order to account for quality victories and losses. The most impressive wins are in Quadrant 1 (teams 1–30 at home, teams 1-75 away), while the least impressive results are in Quadrant 4 (161-362 at home, 241-362 away).

Six of Air Force’s victories are classified as Q4 victories, while the Falcons’ Nov. 26 road victory over South Dakota is classified as a Q3 victory. They lost to Delaware and Portland State in their respective Q2s.
In the NET, Air Force is ranked sixth in the Mountain West, ahead of UNLV, Fresno State, Boise State, San Jose State, and Wyoming. The Falcons are in front of Wake Forest, Penn State, Syracuse, and Indiana, among other formidable programs.

Prior to the release of the rankings on Monday, Air Force’s highest NET position came on January 17, 2023, after victories on the road over Colorado State and Fresno State.

There are three games left on Air Force’s non-conference schedule. Before their games against UT-Arlington and Northern Colorado later in December, the Falcons host Eastern Washington on Saturday.

As of right now, Colorado State is ranked highest among Mountain West teams. Rams (8-0) rank seventh.
