When iOS 17 goes live: How long before iOS 17 can be downloaded?

Apple will announce iOS 17, the next major version of its mobile operating system, on Monday during its WWDC presentation. However, when can you expect to receive iOS 17? iOS 17 release date has not been officially affirmed at this point, yet the organization typically sticks to a recognizable pattern on the calendar.

The Apple Reality Pro headset—or whatever it eventually becomes known as—has been the subject of numerous rumors prior to June 5. However, Apple also uses WWDC to introduce forthcoming year’s software features for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.

In point of fact, information about upcoming accessibility features for iOS 17 has already been made public, including a new, simplified alternative app launcher layout and a Live Speech feature that lets you use your own Personal Voice.

However, the remaining consumer features will be revealed on Monday. When the iPhone is docked, we expect a more sophisticated always-on display view similar to that of an Amazon Echo Show, a new journaling app, a new Wallet app with location sharing and additional Dynamic Island functionality for iPhone 14 Pro (and soon iPhone 15) owners, and possibly some other surprises that have not yet been rumored. However, iOS 17 probably won’t have anything as significant as the iOS 16 Lock Screen redesign or the iOS 14 home screen widgets update because Apple is primarily focusing on the XR headset this year.

When will iOS 17 become available?

We can expect that iOS 17 will be available as a developer beta seed following Monday’s keynote in terms of a release date. This indicates that developers will be able to install iOS 17 beta 1 on their test devices around 1 PM PST. Only registered Apple developers can access developer seeds.

A public beta of iOS 17 will follow a few weeks later, around the end of June or the beginning of July, assuming that Apple adheres to its predetermined schedule. For comparison, the first public beta of iOS 16 was released on July 11, 2022. To participate in the Apple Beta Software Program, anyone can sign up.

After that, iOS 17 will go through a number of additional rounds of beta seeds over the summer, and it will be officially made available to the general public in conjunction with the introduction of the iPhone 15 lineup in the fall. This occurs approximately during the second or third week of September almost always.

Apple usually releases the next version of watchOS at the same time as iOS, but iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 may not be released until a little later, usually in October.

However, iOS 16.6 is currently in the beta testing phase and will likely be released by the end of June. It includes minor enhancements like the addition of iMessage Contact Key verification.
