Meta’s microblogging app Threads is now testing a spoiler text feature, according to a recent post by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The new function allows users to blur text or images in posts, hiding them from immediate view until someone taps to reveal the content.
The concept is already familiar to users of platforms like Reddit and Discord, where spoiler text is widely used to discuss plot points from popular TV shows, movies, and books without ruining the experience for others. Now, Threads is catching up by offering a similar feature to its growing entertainment-focused community.
“Popular shows like The Last of Us and The White Lotus regularly trended on Threads during their seasons,” Meta said in a statement, adding that spoiler tools encourage more active pop culture discussions while respecting individual viewing paces.
Beyond entertainment, spoiler text can also serve a broader purpose, such as masking sensitive or potentially disturbing content that doesn’t violate policies but might still unsettle some users.
The spoiler option isn’t yet available to everyone. For those currently part of the test group, users can highlight text or images before posting, then select the “Mark spoiler” option from the context menu.
This feature marks a subtle yet impactful upgrade to Threads’ user experience, especially for those engaged in real-time discussions about media and trending topics.
