Google Translate is rolling out a new model switcher that allows users to choose between faster translations or more accurate results, giving them greater control over how the app works.
Choose Between “Fast” and “Advanced”
The new feature introduces two modes—Fast and Advanced.
- Fast Mode: Ideal for quick translations where speed matters most.
- Advanced Mode: Offers higher accuracy for complex text and nuanced languages.
By default, Google Translate will continue to use the Advanced model, ensuring the best translation quality. However, users can now manually switch to Fast mode whenever they need instant results.
How to Use the New Model Picker
Once available, a pill-shaped indicator will appear below the Google Translate logo in the app. Tapping it lets users toggle between the two models. The feature is currently rolling out and has been spotted first on the iOS version, with Android support expected soon.
It’s important to note that this model switcher applies only to typed text translations and not live translation or voice translation. Google has mentioned that Advanced mode is supported only for select languages, though the list hasn’t been confirmed yet.
A Smarter Translation Experience
This update gives users more flexibility—whether they need speed on the go or precision for professional use. While live translation remains unchanged, this improvement to text translation marks a significant step in making Google Translate more adaptable and user-friendly.
With this new speed vs accuracy toggle, Google Translate continues to evolve into a smarter, more customizable translation tool. Users can now fine-tune their translation experience based on what matters most—time or precision.
